What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Dear all test takers who have chosen to blog your results thus far:

You know, the fact that several born and bred deep south-southerners can take this test and be similarly misdiagnosed raises some questions.

a) The test is flawed. I haven't viewed it yet; but its diagnostic ability is not very impressive. Midland is maybe what the program gives for some accent with which the author was inexperienced.

b) Test takers flubbed it.

c) People are in denial about their accent (which anyone living a few states away would assure you that you have). Yes, we don't have the Texas twang or the Bama/Georgia overkill; but nonetheless, we are Southerners and we have "accent" - whether or not it is popular, educated or intellectually saavy to claim it.

d) This comment is an example of overanalysis of the trivial

e)Y'all all should consider a career in something covert (aka: FBI, CIA, McDonalds) that would make use of your gifting: marked ability to disguise your linguistic background.

f) some or all of the above
